Join the Trade Development Alliance for an update on the fast-growing economy of Vietnam. Vietnam possesses a population of 92 million and growing,  and is also connected to the 600 million people representated in ASEAN. While the country has seen rapid economic gains over the past several years it is  still building capacity, and there are many opportunities for partnership and collaboration, especially in the areas of IT, healthcare and medical technology.

By 2015 Vietnam will achieve significant regional integration with other ASEAN nations as the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) comes into effect. We will look at what this and other factors mean for US companies doing business in Vietnam and ASEAN. The program will also look at the Binh Duong province, an important driver of the country’s economy and specific opportunities for U.S. companies.

IT
Over the past five years, Vietnam has sustained an average network growth of over 20%, the highest in Asia. Recently Binh Duong province established Becamex Technology Incubatory Center (Becamex TIC) which supports new companies involved in technology. Becamex  is Vietnam’s largest industrial park operator and one of the largest real estate companies in Vietnam. The center boasts IT facilities as well as office space for business startups to incubate new creative ideas. Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai, general director of Becamex TIC will also be with our delegation.

Healthcare and Medical Devices
There is a strong demand for healthcare, medical devices and pharmaceuticals in Vietnam.

Vietnamese pharmaceutical production and supply capacity remains weak. The country spends over US$1 billion every year to import pharmaceuticals, mostly from European and Asian countries. Most medical equipment is also imported. Access to quality healthcare can be challenging in Vietnam, prompting around  30,000 Vietnamese people to travel abroad to seek treatment.

About Binh Duong province
Binh Duong province is strategically located near Ho Chi Minh City in the Southern Key Economic Zone (SKEZ), which accounted for more than 70 percent of the country’s export revenue in the last several years. The area is advantageous for U.S. companies that want to access Vietnam because of its proximity to Hi Chi Minh City and competitive cost of doing business.
