On Tuesday, the Washington State China Relations Council celebrated its 34th year with a banquet featuring Chairman Wang Shi of Vanke International, China’s largest developer, and Ambassador Gary Locke, who gave remarks and answered a short Q&A. The Council awarded its annual Member of the Year award to Expeditors, for their role in expanding freight between China and Washington, and inaugurated the Sidney, an award named after Sidney Rittenberg, the first honoree, for any Washingtonian demonstrating a lifetime’s commitment to building bridges between Washington State and China.
The banquet also marked Council president Joe Borich’s retirement, after 16 years in office, ever dedicated to using his unique knowledge and perspective on China to enhance relationships between our state and China. We wish Joe well in future endeavours, and wish to congratulate all the honorees and speakers at the banquet. A wonderful time was had by all!
The event was filmed by TVW and the video is available on their website. It will also show on their TV station, starting Saturday, October 5, at 9pm. Other times will be announced.
